Northeast Palawan
WWII wrecks, volcanic lakes, and the Philippines' most rewarding diving
About Coron
Coron defies easy description. It is the destination that surprises even experienced Philippines travelers. Kayangan Lake — a volcanic, hyper-clear freshwater lake framed by karst walls — is regularly cited as the most beautiful lake in Asia. The wrecks of the Japanese Kogyo fleet, sunk by American bombers in 1944, now form one of the world's most spectacular wreck diving destinations. Add pristine reef snorkelling, remote island beaches accessible only by private boat, and a raw, unhurried atmosphere that Boracay and El Nido no longer possess — and Coron delivers a deeply memorable Philippine experience.
What Awaits
Over 20 Japanese ships rest between 15 and 40 metres in the waters around Coron. Coral-encrusted and teeming with marine life, these wrecks are considered among the world's top 10 dive sites. Private guides and equipment available for villa guests.
Consistently rated Asia's most beautiful lake. Volcanic, crystal-clear water surrounded by sheer karst walls. A short hike from the pier, early-morning visits are ethereally calm — mist rising off glassy turquoise water before the day-trippers arrive.
Coron's outer islands — Malcapuya, Banana Island, Smith Island — offer white sand beaches with no infrastructure, no vendors, and no crowds. A private boat is your access key. These are the Philippines as they were decades ago.
Coron receives far fewer visitors than El Nido. Island-hopping routes here rarely involve other tourists. The overall atmosphere is rawer, more adventurous, and less commercial — a genuinely authentic Philippine experience.
Natural saltwater hot springs on Coron Island, heated geothermally to around 39°C. A unique evening experience — soak under the stars in natural hot water surrounded by mangroves, just 15 minutes from most villa positions.
Two interconnected lagoons separated by a submerged limestone wall you swim through at low tide. The outer lagoon is saltwater, the inner freshwater — creating a surreal temperature-layer effect that divers and snorkellers find extraordinary.
